Tilt-Shift Simulation of a Bridge in Rome, Italy.

I've been playing with some Tilt-Shift Photography simulations in Photoshop.  Andrew Broekhuijsenfirst showed them to me.  I thought they were actual photographs of minitures.  They are incredible.  If you have a chance go over and take a look.

After a few attempts, I came up with this one from our trip to Rome.

These are a lot of fun.

Geese Getting Ready to Fly South

The geese in Stewart Park, Ithaca NY, are getting ready to head south.

What a great day.

Bench of the Week #8, Sage Chapel Cornell University

This bench is outside of Sage Chapel at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY.  It's a great place to sit and relax and meditate.  I find it very peaceful.

I hope you enjoy.

Evening of Music

We went to some friends house for a party in their Pub.  He has lots of musical equipment, and some very talented friends.

We had an evening of great food, wonderful music, and a little wine.  It's great to see them all again.

The pub has very dark red walls, and the lighting is very subdued.  It's difficult to take photos without a flash.  I used my f1.8 lens, and this seemed to work for this photo.  I thought it lended itself well to Monochrome.  I hope you like it.

We like to call this one, "The 6th Beatle".

Photo details: Exposure time 1/80, Aperture f/1.8, ISO 1600, Focal Length 50 mm, 35 mm equivalent focal length 81mm, Lens Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II, hand held.

Reflection of Fall Colors

We have had a week of rain here in Central New York, but today the Sun, and blue sky were out.  And so were the fall colors.

I stopped by a pond in the late evening and was able to catch this photo with the beautiful fall colors reflecting off the water.

I also had a very pleasant surprise of being able to photograph a beaver as it swam around the pond.  I hope to do something special with those photos.

Bench of the Week #7, Ithaca Commons, Ithaca NY.

The Ithaca Commons is a unique place full of interesting shops, restaurants and public places.  I was walking through the commons this week, and I noticed this bench.  I thought it was an interesting design, and thought of it as a family bench.  I could easily see parents sitting in the blue seats, and drinking their coffee.  The coffee could rest on the green table.  Meanwhile the children are all crawling all over the rest of the bench like a playground.

Photo details: Exposure time 1/60 sec, Aperture f/4.0, ISO 100, Focal Length 17 mm, 35 mm equivalent focal length 28mm, Lens Canon EF 17-40mm, handheld.

Bench of Week #7, Lab of Ornithology

The Lab of Ornithology at Cornell University has many trails that are in wetlands where it's very easy to walk around and observe the birds. Many people have donated money to the Lab, and there are benches everywhere.

This particular bench overlooks the lake where it's very easy to see a Blue Heron Nest. It is covered with an arbor and trumpet vines. It's a great place to sit and observe the birds.

Photo details: Exposure time 1/60, Aperture f/2.8, ISO 100, Focal Length 70 mm, 35 mm equivalent focal length 113mm, Lens Canon 70-200mm f2.8L USM, hand held.

Bench of the Week #6 Very Primitive

There's a new trail in Freeville NY that has only been there a couple of years. At the far end of the trail somebody has made this very primitive bench. They cut two notches in two pieces of log, and placed another log on top of the notches. The pieces look like they all come from the same tree. Perhaps this is what one of the first wooden benches look like.

Enjoy.

Bench of the Week #5

This Bench of the Week is from Cornell University. I think it's a very old bench. Inscribed on the back is the following message:

"TO THOSE WHO SHALL SIT HERE REJOICING, TO THOSE WHO SHALL SIT HERE MOURNING, SYMPATHY AND GREETING; SO WE HAVE DONE IN OUR TIME. 1892 A.D.W.- H.M.

I would assume that the A.D.W. stands for Andrew Dixon White the co-founder of Cornell University. I'm not sure of the H.M.

I like the bench as it reaches across time to speak to us today. It helps to put thing in perspective. It's a great bench for overlooking Cayuga Lake far below the University.

Photo details: Exposure time 1/25 sec, Aperture f/8.0, ISO 100, Focal Length 17 mm, 35 mm equivalent focal length 28mm, Lens Canon EF 17-40mm, tripod.

Bench of the Week #4

This bench holds a special place in my heart. It's one that my wife bought for the back yard. It's a glider so it can be slid back and forth while sitting in it. It's a great place to sit with a beer at the end of the day, and unwind.

Photo details: Exposure time 1/125, Aperture f/1.8, ISO 100, Focal Length 50 mm, 35 mm equivalent focal length 81mm, Lens Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II, hand held.

Bench of the Week #3

This weeks Bench of the Week for me is a circular bench that overlooks the Cornell University Plantations. It's a great spot. There are two of these benches on this overlook that are a 1/3 of a circle. Between the two benches is a long gong with a hammer. It's a very peaceful place, with great stone. I hope you enjoy.

It's been a while since I've posted to this blog. My Photo of the Day Blog has taken over for this blog. I already had a photo of the day. My rules prohibit me from posting two photos of the day on that blog.

Photo details: Exposure time 1/320 sec, Aperture f/5.6, ISO 100, Focal Length 17 mm, 35 mm equivalent focal length 27mm, Lens Canon EF 17-40mm, circular polarized filter, tripod.
